Southwest Airlines Passengers Vomited, Sent Farewell Texts During Risky Landing Attempt

A Southwest Airlines flight making an attempt to land in New Orleans airport Saturday in the midst of a storm brought about passengers onboard to start out panicking.

The aircraft was flying from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to its vacation spot. Upon reaching New Orleans, the pilot tried to land the aircraft amid restricted visibility and stormy circumstances. After failing to take action, the flight was diverted to Panama City, Florida, the place it was to refuel and wait out the storm.

The expertise of attempting to land in a storm was so scary that passengers began crying, screaming and even vomiting on the aircraft. Some of them had been satisfied that it was going to be the final day of their lives — a lot that they began sending goodbye texts to their family members.

“We got here by the clouds and the aircraft was simply tilting backwards and forwards. It was going far and wide,” passenger Lauren Bale, who works for CBS-affiliated WWL-TV, informed her station.

Finally as the flight landed in Panama City after being diverted, Bale’s relief was apparent in her Twitter post: “We’re now in Panama City waiting out the storm. This was all 100% preventable but @SouthwestAir took a huge risk and I honestly feel lucky to be alive. #lawx #southwest.”

There were other passengers who shared Bale’s feelings.

“It felt like I was about to lift off. I felt like I was done. I felt like I was about to see baby Jesus and Papa God,” another passenger, Marie Wary, said of the scary failed landing.

Another passenger, Sharon Bikoundou, said he did not understand why the pilot tried to land the plane under such severe conditions as “You couldn’t see anything. No visibility.” Describing the pilot’s actions, he added: “Right as he was about to land he pulled back up.”

A spokesperson for the Southwest Airlines issued the following statement, according to Fox News: “Our prime focus is Safety. Flight 3461 from Fort Lauderdale to New Orleans arrived about 4 hours not on time after persistent thunderstorms over New Orleans pressured extended holding close to New Orleans awaiting clearance from air visitors controllers adopted by a refueling cease in Panama City earlier than the completion of the journey. The Safety of our Customers and Employees in addition to the protected operation of each flight is our highest precedence.”

Although the passengers who needed to undertake the journey underneath harrowing climate circumstances had been provided compensation for the ordeal, Bale stated it was not sufficient.

“The forecast was for extreme climate. The failed touchdown, voucher for value of ticket & apology from SW show they need to have by no means tried to land after they did. Thankful the pilots had been capable of get us out of that state of affairs, however we should not have been put in it to start with,” she wrote on social media.
