No critical accidents after Southwest jet catches hearth

A San Jose-bound Southwest flight was evacuated in Southern California on Monday after crew members reported a fireplace within the aircraft’s auxiliary energy unit, officers mentioned.

About 140 passengers and 5 crew members had been pressured to exit Flight 2123 after floor personnel at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, observed smoke coming from the again of the aircraft because it left the gate.

The hearth has since been extinguished.

Southwest mentioned the aircraft’s chutes had been deployed to get passengers off the aircraft rapidly. There had been just a few minor accidents reported, however nobody was transported, in line with airport officers.

“Standard protocol was initiated and evacuation slides had been deployed. Local Fire and Rescue met the plane and the 139 passengers and 5 Crew Members departed the plane through the slides,” the airline mentioned. “Local Orange County Employees are working diligently to accommodate the passengers on one other plane to get them to their ultimate vacation spot this night.”

“Paramedics are onsite however no critical accidents have been reported,” Southwest added.

The FAA confirmed the incident in a press release to ABC News, saying it had triggered partial taxiway closures, but it surely didn’t say if it was investigating the reason for the hearth.

Airport officers mentioned operations had been “again to regular” by 11:35 p.m. EST, in line with a press release posted on Twitter.
