Over a month after her former morning-show colleague Matt Lauer was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of ladies, his former Today present co-host Katie Couric has opened up for the primary time on her response to the information, saying in an interview that the alleged conduct “was not the Matt we knew.”
“The entire factor has been very painful for me,” Couric instructed People in an interview revealed Saturday (Jan. 13). “I had no thought this was occurring throughout my tenure or after I left. I feel I converse for a lot of of my former colleagues after I say this was not the Matt we knew.”
Couric added that Lauer’s conduct to her was all the time skilled, and that he was like a brother. “Matt was a form and beneficiant colleague who handled me with respect. In reality, a joke I as soon as made on late-night tv was simply that, as a result of it was fully opposite to our brother-sister relationship. It’s nonetheless very upsetting. Couric co-hosted the Today present with Lauer for 15 years till she left in 2006 to host CBS Evening News. Couric broke her silence on the Lauer allegations in a December Instagram reply, by which she instructed a person asking why she had not addressed the scandal in public, “It’s extremely upsetting and I’ll say one thing after I’m able to. Thanks to your curiosity.”
NBC News fired Matt Lauer on Nov. 29 because of an inner criticism about “inappropriate sexual habits.”
Lauer apologized in a press release a day later. There aren’t any phrases to precise my sorrow and remorse for the ache I’ve brought about others by phrases and actions. To the folks I’ve harm, I’m actually sorry,” he wrote.
