As Minnesota highschool pitcher Ty Koehn of the Mounds View Mustangs struck out his last batter of the sectional championship final Wednesday, sending his crew to state, his first intuition was to not leap up and down in celebration.
Koehn went instantly to batter Jack Kocon of Totino-Grace High School, a childhood buddy, to provide him a hug. It’s an act of sportsmanship that many are celebrating greater than the win itself.
“I knew I needed to say one thing,” Koehn instructed Minnesota outlet Bring Me the News. “Our friendship is extra necessary than simply the foolish end result of a recreation. I had to ensure he knew that earlier than we celebrated.”
Mustangs coach Mark Downey was maybe the one individual not caught off-guard by the great sportsmanship. “Ty’s actions the opposite evening don’t shock me and are reflective of what I would count on from any one of many gamers on the crew,” Downey instructed the outlet.
The Mounds View Mustangs are headed to the Minnesota state tournament and can face Stillwater Area High School of their first spherical.
